Who knows Miatas well??? I’ve got a fairly bad clutch shake when I feather it out from a stop in first gear. It’s also been a little more finicky during normal shifting. Is it a slave cylinder? I know that was one of the NA’s weaknesses.

Also I need a new exhaust, just from the cat back. If anyone knows any good ones you should let me know. I’m thinking about the cobalt one from moss. Good plan? Thanks for the help oppo!

Slave cylinders is a problem that plagues both NAs and NBs. I had mine replaced a few months ago on my ‘02. You might also want to fill up on new transmission fluid and put some fresh trans fluid in the shifter turret.

Cobalt is a good exhaust but I love Roadster Sport. RS3 gives a deep, throaty note that’s a like an old-school British roadster and you can bolt in a simple baffle to prevent it from droning.

Hmm. Could be worn oddly. Clutch bucking is really common on NB Miatas due to some issue with the flywheel IIRC. Could be some sort of bolt hole on the clutch assy got wallowed out slightly.

If Miata is always the answer, than wouldn’t it be what’s wrong with your car? “What’s wrong with my car?” “The answer is Miata.”

If you feel it shaking in the pedal, it’s most certainly your clutch release bearing that went bad. That means pulling out the transmission to change it. I recommend changing the clutch while you’re at it.

The slave cylinder is easy to check: Get under the car and pull back the boot from the slave cylinder. If there is any fluid behind the boot, you’ve got a slave cylinder in need of repair or replacement.

I have a new-to-me 2001 Miata SE (Special Edition) with the infamous (and pretty impressive) clutch shudder. My SE (Super Expert) mechanic recommended this to me:

I want to make my own slave cylinder or just cobble one together from a superior design from a different car.
Also I want to do this with my exhaust. cuz 1/3 of a v12 will sound the same right?

Wow that’s an awesome exhaust! I looked into it and it sounds awesome compared to the cobalt!

It’s pricey, about 700$ for the mid-pipe and muffler, but I got both used with unknown miles for 350$ about...2 years ago and I’m still loving it.

I just found the whole set online new for $439! Check Good-win racing. Think I might pull the trigger. That sounds miles better than anything else I've heard
